Summary

Provides instruction, coaching, assistance, support, and advocacy needed by individuals with developmental disabilities (consumers) to successfully job train in a community job setting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Orients the consumer to the work setting.
  2. Develops a task analysis (daily work schedule) that identifies all the job duties that must be completed during the work day.
  3. Trains the consumer to complete their assigned job duties up to employer expectations.
  4. Assists the consumer develop relationships with cowokers.
  5. Provides appropriate moral support and encouragement, instruction, coaching, counseling, mentoring, and advocacy as needed for the person to succeed in their job.
  6. Assist the consumer with meeting their goals for the Individual Habilitation Services Plan (IHSP).
  7. Provides travel support to and from community job training sites, including use of public transportation.
  8. Reviews the consumers’ performance with each consumer on an on-going basis and works with each consumer on targeted areas needing improvement.
  9. Provides and supports activities that involve work-based learning in and off campus.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Completes all paperwork and documentation in a timely and correct manner.
  2. Attends meetings and trainings as directed by WS Employment Coordinators.
  3. If meets driving qualifications, transports consumers to and from training sites, in own vehicle or assigned agency vehicle, as applicable.
  4. Maintains the highest professional and ethical standards at all times.
  5. Supports the Agency’s mission.
  6. Works effectively with coworkers, consumers, and others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner; listens to and objectively considers ideas and suggestions from others; keeps commitments; keeps others informed of work progress times tables and issues; addresses problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical solutions; addresses others by name, title or other respectful identifiers; and respects the diversity of the New Horizons work force and actions, words and deeds.
  7. Performs additional duties, as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The individual must be able to guide and accompany consumers to community site through walking and/or public transportation, as applicable.

In order to transport consumers, the individual must have a reliable vehicle, proof of vehicle insurance, a valid California Driver License, and a driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier.

Education and/or Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent; one year of experience working with adults with developmental disabilities is preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to receive instructions in English and ability to direct and instruct consumers in English.
