A Message From JOHN C. BRAUER, M.A. President and CEO – August 2025
Dear Friends,
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the summer. Here at New Horizons, August always brings a sense of both reflection and anticipation. We’ve spent the past several months working hard alongside our Members, families, staff, and community partners, and as summer begins to wind down, we’re looking ahead to a new season of growth and opportunity.
This month, I’d like to highlight a few things that truly capture the spirit of our work together:
- Celebrating Success: Dozens of young adults have just completed our summer Camp CapAbility program, which is a part of our Youth Navigation Center. Through it they built confidence, workplace skills, and friendships that will last well beyond a season. We are so appreciative of our community partnerships, especially California State University Northridge (CSUN), and it was amazing watching the students blossom into the next stage of their journey, which reminds us all why we do this work.
- Expanding Opportunities: Our Employment Services programs continue to thrive, with over 600 individuals participating each year and more than 70% of participants in our Pathways program moving into competitive community jobs. These accomplishments would not be possible without our 165+ employer partners across the San Fernando Valley who open doors to meaningful employment.
- Strengthening Community: As our organization grows, so does our commitment to inclusivity and advocacy. We’re deepening our partnerships with local schools, providers, and businesses to ensure that every individual we serve is seen, valued, and given the chance to thrive.
Looking ahead, we’re focused on expanding housing opportunities, increasing access to employment, and creating more inclusive spaces where people of all abilities can belong. None of this would be possible without the ongoing support of parents, providers, donors, and community champions like you.
Thank you for being an essential part of the New Horizons family. Together, we are building a brighter, more inclusive future for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities here in So Cal!
Happy (almost) Fall, Ya’ll!
Best,
John
