The Dedication of the Troy Binder House
Honoring the Life and Legacy of Troy Binder
New Horizons is proud to announce the dedication of the Troy Binder House, formerly our Reseda Ranch home — a place that celebrates the life and legacy of a man whose warmth, determination, and spirit continue to inspire us all.
For the Members who live there, the Troy Binder House is more than just a home. It’s a safe, welcoming, and supportive space where people with disabilities can truly belong and thrive. Like its namesake, it reflects the values of acceptance, belonging, and opportunity that have always been at the heart of New Horizons.
Why the Dedication Matters
This dedication honors not only Troy’s remarkable journey but also the hope and inclusion he inspired in others. Nearly 50 years ago, Troy made history as one of New Horizons’ first clients to move from campus-based work to employment in the community — paving the way for others with developmental disabilities to follow.
Troy’s passion for helping others didn’t stop there. When illness prevented him from working, he launched the Change for Change campaign — rolling coins at home and inspiring friends and family across the region to join in giving. That spirit of generosity lives on today through his Gift of Change Fund, which has grown to more than $120,000 and now helps support the Troy Binder House and its new outdoor gathering space.
A Home That Reflects His Spirit
Located in the San Fernando Valley, the Troy Binder House stands as a living tribute to Troy’s kindness, perseverance, and belief in community. It brings people together — just as he always did — and ensures that his legacy of compassion and inclusion will continue to touch lives for generations to come.
New Horizons is deeply honored to dedicate this home in Troy’s name and to carry forward the spirit of generosity, love, and belonging that he embodied so beautifully.
The late Troy Binder was the beloved son of Fredrick and Betty Sue Weitkamp,
cherished longtime friends and generous supporters of New Horizons.
Betty Sue Weitkamp is a former Board Member and continues to serve as a valued member of our Emeritus Council.
