New Horizons 2015 Walk Around the World Festival Fundraiser a Huge Success
A great day, a great event!
On October 25, 2015 New Horizons welcomed friends and family to the North Hills campus for our 8th annual walk event.
This year was special as we chose to do things a little differently by challenging our fundraisers to pick a destination, anywhere in the world, and virtually walk towards it throughout the month of October. Those who met the challenge were then invited to walk their last few miles around New Horizons’ property.
On a pleasant Southern California Fall day, with the weather topping off at just 75 degrees, the walk became a fun festival. There was music, food trucks, a beer garden, health and business expo, raffles, and games for the kids. More than 250 walk participants were greeted by New Horizons Board Chairman John D. Bunzel and our President and CEO Cynthia Sewell.
After being led in the Pledge of Allegiance by New Horizons client and Toastmaster Elizabeth Marton, walkers, who wore cool green tee-shirts, walked some 15 laps around New Horizons’ Workshop and Achievement Center buildings. Together they proved that wherever in the world we are, we can raise money to provide job training, homes, and confidence to people with special needs to help them fulfill their dreams and live better, more independent lives.
Congratulations to committee co-chairs Heidi Lennartz and Mary Ann Cummins Prager, staff, and volunteers for putting together such a great event. We are grateful for our sponsors: Anheuser Busch, CPEhr, Galpin Motors, Hamer Toyota, Providence Health & Services of Southern California, NSBN, Susan Stearns of Berkshire Hathaway, and Van Nuys Airport Industrial Center, And a very big thank you to this year’s fundraisers and donors.
Top Fundraisers in the categories of: staff, family teams, clients and individual participant will be announced after November 2nd, which is the deadline to get all donations in. This means, there’s still time to raise funds and go after additional donations. Because you’re personal online donation pages will continue to be able to take contributions. And this year your family and friends can use their smart phones and tablets to make a donation by texting 71777 with the word NHWALK.
