New Horizons Celebrates “Making Movies that Matter”

On Wednesday, May 24, at CSUN’s Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC), participants in New Horizons Technology and Media Arts program joined others in the community to celebrate Mitchell Englander’s Making Movies that Matter and Short Film Festival.

It was a red carpet affair that treated New Horizons consumers to a full house of those interested in seeing what the creative filmmakers had produced over the 12 week program.  What the consumers delivered were 4 short films — “Bananas,” “In The Game,” “One Wish,” and “The Storyteller.”  For there efforts they received the Community Spirit Award.

Making Movies that Matter is in it’s second year with plans to continue giving young filmmakers the opportunity to express their creative selves as they identify issues and topics that resonate with them and to have that passion manifest itself in films that touch people.

New Horizons consumers had a blast learning the art of making movies.  What mattered most is they got the opportunity to participate and be included.  And so inspired, they plan to continue making movies.
