Summary
Member Services Coordinator/Curriculum Specialist is responsible for the case management and coordination of services for up to 20 Members under different service codes within Community Learning Center. The Member Services Coordinator (MSC)/Curriculum Specialist provides coaching, assistance, instruction/training, support, and advocacy to the Members on the case load in a variety of formats including in-person (on-site and in the community), virtually, and by phone. The MSC/Curriculum Specialist facilitates services and connections for the program Members according to the principles of Person-Centered Thinking and inclusion to ensure that services and supports reflect their preferences, choices, and needs through participation in community life.
The MSC/Curriculum Specialist may use a variety of media, technology, curriculum, and creative methods to adapt to each Member’s unique situation.
The MSC/Curriculum Specialist is responsible for the oversight, planning, scheduling and execution of community-based training and activities in accordance with Members’ PCP and ISP. The position is responsible for the arrangement and coordination of transportation including the use of agency vehicles and public transportation. Vehicle coordination will require collaboration with other departments for the use of shared vehicles.
The MSC/Curriculum Specialist position is responsible for providing technical support for co-workers and Members, authorization tracking and billing, timekeeping and attendance, Member customer service, review of progress notes and ISPs, preparation for and participation in ISPs, upkeep of files and documentation, and/or creative and innovative development of learning opportunities for the Members.
The MSC/Curriculum Specialist assists with designing and developing meaningful curriculum to fulfill Person-Centered Plan for each Member. The position is responsible for coordinating new hire trainings and conducting parts of the training.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates positive attitude about New Horizons programs, employees, and Members and communicates in a positive and professional manner with all stakeholders.
2. Enters and updates information in the Member database. Confirms that the data is accurate, current, and complete for assigned Members.
3. Ensures Members have accurate authorization for services provided.
4. Ensures accurate attendance tracking.
5. Assists with development and implementation of procedures, recordkeeping, schedules, training, and other systems/tools as needed to fulfill the requirements of the program.
6. Works collaboratively with all MSC’s to provide training to DSP’s as needed.
7. Participates in the intake process which includes reviewing referral packets, completing initial and ongoing assessments.
8. Completes/Reviews Special Incidents Reports before sending to Program Manager.
9. Engages in problem-solving with the Program Manager and other MSCs and devises effective solutions as needed.
10. Collaborates with other departments on the use of agency vehicles. Coordinates Members’ transportation into the community.
11. Ensures Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are trained in the use of public transportation before they take Members out into the community.
12. Remains flexible and adjusts as needed during fast-paced and changing environment.
13. Completes and submits all paperwork and documentation, accurately and timely.
14. Contacts/engages with assigned Members on a regular basis. Interacts with family Members, care givers, or other support staff as needed to have facilitated communication and support for the Member.
15. Participates in calls/meetings with other MSCs and supervisors. Participates in discussions and offers ideas and support to other MSCs and DSPs.
16. Participates in the development and implementation of Members’ Person-Centered Planning and Individual Program Planning.
17. Reviews Members’ progress towards meeting their established objectives and meets with Members on an as-needed basis in helping them towards accomplishing desired outcomes.
18. Develops individualized person-centered curriculum/packets for Members who receive remote/alternative services.
19. Ensures DSP’s are addressing identified goals and documenting progress appropriately.
20. Communicates with Members’ Regional Center Services Coordinators in coordination of services and supports for Members.
21. Participates in trainings as directed by supervisor. This may include agency and program-specific trainings.
22. Serves as a back-up to other MSCs as needed. Steps in to fulfill staffing ratios and address emergency situations as needed.
23. In the absence of DSPs/Personal Care Assistants, changes and cleans Members who have had a toileting accident.
24. Assists with designing, developing, and implementing training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for Members.
25. Updates training, instructional, and curriculum materials on a consistent basis.
26. Collaborates with Member Services Coordinators to ensure full knowledge of the Members’ likes, dislikes, interests, personal preferences, physical and cognitive abilities.
27. Assists with compiling periodic reports that outline successes, constraints, and the way forward.
28. Regularly reviews Members’ needs, the program of activities, and levels of participation, in order to evaluate effectiveness of the curriculum.
29. Organizes activities/outings with consideration for safety and staffing requirements.
30. Works as an active team member with Member Services Coordinators and Direct Support
Professionals to obtain their input and feedback to ensure full knowledge of the Members’ likes, dislikes, abilities, interests, challenges.
31. Assists with assessing the effectiveness of curriculum and modifying curriculum and community resources as needed to ensure its continued positive impact on the lives of the Members.
32. Promotes Members’ participation in activities.
33. Trains, monitors, and provides ongoing support to Direct Support Professional with respect to curriculum implementation.
34. Prepares an engaging and creative monthly activities calendar which incorporates the communities’ events for Members who are onsite, and Zoom activities for Members receiving virtual supports.
35. Procures supplies for all activities in accordance with budget.
36. Effectively manages supplies to ensure all learning hubs are adequately stocked.
37. Ensures learning hubs have whatever is necessary to carry out curriculum: worksheets, power point presentations, supplies, equipment, etc.
38. Provides initial and ongoing training to Direct Support Professionals on the implementation and use of the training curriculum.
39. Conducts instruction delivery evaluations, analysis, and recommendations for improvements.
40. Maintains current knowledge of and proficiency in relevant technology including but not limited to the use of Zoom, Teams, Facetime applications.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
1. Assists with developing curriculum and creative learning opportunities for Members in accordance with personal interests and experience.
2. Participates in cross-training opportunities and support for essential programs.
3. Assists with design and organization of future training rooms, in compliance with CDC directives, per direction of supervisor.
4. Helps prepare for CARF survey as directed by CARF Coordinator.
5. Maintains the highest professional and ethical standards at all times.
6. Supports the Agency’s mission and partners with others to accomplish the mission.
7. Performs additional duties, as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises Direct Support Professionals who work directly with the Members to whom they are assigned and must ensure they adhere to the organization’s policies and procedures applicable laws. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the agency’s policies and procedures applicable laws. The MSC/Curriculum Specialist will be responsible for training, coaching, and mentoring employees on the daily implementation of CLC services. To this end, the MSC/Curriculum Specialist will participate in interviewing applicants, assessing and appraising employee performance, and applying disciplinary procedures and training as needed.

The individual must have basic knowledge of and be able to demonstrate appropriate communication and interaction styles for individuals with special needs. The individual must have excellent oral communication skills to engage Members over the phone or in virtual settings. The individual must have excellent writing skills to complete required reports and documentation. The individual must have excellent time management and organizational skills; must be a team player; must be able to work collaboratively with other MSCs, programs and departments; must maintain the highest professional and ethical standards at all times.
Education and/or Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree is a plus; two years of experience working with one of the following: adults/children with developmental/intellectual disabilities, elderly, individuals with mental health disorders.
Language Skills
Ability to receive instructions in English and ability to communicate in English in virtual settings and by phone. Being bilingual in Spanish is advantageous but not required. Ability to clearly an accurately document in English the daily contacts and activities with Members. Both oral and written English competency is required.
